Youth in Philanthropy
The Youth In Philanthropy Program for grades K-8 is an educational program of the Association of Fundraising Professionals New Jersey Chapter that relates to the New Jersey Core Curriculum standards and promotes civic engagement.
Since 1994, the New Jersey Chapter's nationally acclaimed state-wide Youth In Philanthropy (YIP) Program has introduced the concept, history and practice of philanthropy to over 20,000 students and their educators. Thousands of New Jersey residents, at hundreds of non-profit organizations, have benefited as a result of the student's volunteer and fund raising projects completed as part of the program.
YIP was honored by AFP's Founder's Award for Public Service in 1998 for its ability to strengthen the capacity of non-profit organizations, their employees and philanthropy; innovative and creative approaches to solving problems and meeting needs in the community and the ability to serve as a national prototype.
The program, with a motto of "Together We Can Make A Difference," helps encourage philanthropy as a life-long endeavor. YIP is a registered service provider the the New Jersey Department of Education's Professional Improvement Program (PIP).
Ultimately, students learn that they don't have to be rich to be a philanthropist and that giving time, talent and/or treasure for the public good is philanthropy and that it is rewarding and fun.
